MIA Talks

Talks by women, for women & about women

Each month, a woman from our network, or a special guest, is invited to speak. These talks aim to inform, inspire, and connect through shared stories and experiences. Speakers may explore their creative journeys, reflect on moments that have shaped their lives, discuss ongoing research, or open the floor for conversation and collaboration. If you would like to take the stage or suggest a speaker, we’d love to hear from you.

Who's MIA

One of the most famous platforms for talks in the world is TED, an acronym for Technology, Entertainment, and Design, originally created in 1984 to connect these three fields. The name “TED” also happens to sound like a man’s name. Inspired to create a space that celebrates women’s voices, the search began for an acronym that carried similar synergy yet reflected a community as diverse and creative as the world itself. This was a difficult task so as not to exclude anyone it was decided that a female name that was short, easy to pronounce, and distinctly feminine was to be used. “Mia,” one of the most popular girls’ names globally, stood out for its simplicity, cultural reach, and shared linguistic roots with names like Maria, Marie, and Maryam.
